Goodbye Orlando. Hello Chicago.

The trip to Chicago was quite an adventure. Our plane was supposed to depart at 7:15 but we sat on the plane for nearly an extra 2 hours for them to fix it. They decided to put us on a new plane. This left us arriving in Chicago 2 hours later, but that was not going to rain on our parade. After a stressful check-in at the hotel we finally were ready to hit the city.

Embarking on our adventure, all 16 of us took off to catch the train. A 20 minute ride into the city and some wandering found us at a plaza where a Turkish festival was taking place. The fountains were colored orange and the air smelt of Kabobs and baklava. After a yummy Turkish lunch we split into two groups. My group headed South while the other Group headed North.

We decided to wander the city and see where that took us. As my first experience in a big city I was amazed at the beauty and uniqueness of the city. Being a country girl I really did not see myself enjoying the city much, but the Windy City took me by surprise. I would never live in such a big city, but I would definitely visit!

The city was quite hot so we found a 7-eleven and got some slur-pees :) . Right outside I got my first experience of a news stand which turned out to be a dirty magazine stand. lol. We then decided to hit China town.

In Chinatown, we checked out all the little shops, bakeries and restaurants. We found some amazing sandwiches, Chinese bake goods and sodas. We also found some very odd thing in one store such a preserved squid and fish. The store for one thing smelled. We then headed back to the hotel to eat our sandwiches, watch the Magic game and prepare for the first day of conference.

An Engineers Life

One thing I have noticed, since I started school, is the lack of a social life that engineers have. When everyone has gone home to their beds, you can always find engineers scattered, in the engineering building, studying their life away. We never are done working. There is just not enough time in the day to get all the work we need done. So if seem to be unsocial and too busy, do not take offense I am an engineer!

The Growing Family

So today I had a spur of the moment idea, I decided to get a hamster! I have wanted one for a while, but the cages cost so much. However, I decided to stop at a garage sale and to my luck I found a cage for $5! So I headed to the pet store where Miss Kylee and I picked out a cute black fur ball with white feet. Now I have yet to pick out a name, but I am sure it will come with time.Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Right now I am thinking Vader (as in Darth Vader) because she has been quite mean and aggressive. I am sure she will calm down over time…Hopefully.

In other news, we have another addition to the family! My cousin Steve asked his recent girlfriend to marry him yesterday, making him the first of 8 grandchildren to get married. Bad news he is going off to Afghanistan in June. Prayers for his safety and marriage are greatly appreciated!

In The Beginning

So here it is! I finally made a blog. I have never been one for journaling, so I thought I would give this blog thing a try. I probably will not be frequent in posting, but I will try my best.
